How and why do we choose our friends?

Friendship is one of the most key things in life other than family. There are many different groups of friends a person can have. For example they can have friends that they know from school that they just talk to while there, family friends, friends from work, and "best" friends. One reason why friendship is so special is because it is voluntary. You don't have to be friends with anyone that you don't want to be friends with. Friendship happens because you share certain values and hobbies with a person. Another way we form friendships is with our peers, or people that are "equal" to us. Although some people may befriend there boss, those friendships can become complicated because you are not equal with them persay. Another way we make friends with a person and remain friends with that person is that there are said to be rules for the friendship. These rules may not be discussed, but they are just somthing mutual between friends that they know and understand. Some of these rules are standing up for a friend in his or her absence, trusting each other, offering help when your friend needs it, and don't criticize your friend in public.

Reading about friends it sounds like it could be complicated to even find someone to meet these expectations. But when you find a person you will just click if your truly supposed to be friends in life.
